Review distribution module configuration

Background

The distribution module is responsible for gathering the outputs of a build.

Description

We'd like to review the operations performed by this module, and check that the configuration is still valid. Anything that is no longer needed can be removed.

Analysis

There's a version.txt that's present in both the core module and the distribution module. The distribution module copy may no longer be necessary.

There's some configuration in pom.xml and zip.xml that may not be needed any more. We can go through part by part and recheck it. We can add comments explaining anything we keep.
