Hi, I have a Mobilinkd TNC3 2.1.1 with firmware 2.0.1 - it used to work but now ........ (crickets)

I've given up on trying to get it to work on my new cell phone and just moved it over to a old Samsung A7 tablet.
If I connect to it on the tablet with Mobilinkd App I can connect to it and see it.
I can set::

Audio Output Settings Vol = 63 Tone = 50 1200Hz and the light on the TNC lights up on TX
Audio Input Settings Gain Level = 2 Twist Level = 7db Far right red element flickers and using auto-adjust
Power Settings Batt Level at 3692mv and charging - power on/off on USB not checked
KISS Para TX Delay = 30 Persis = 64 Slot Time = 2 TX Tail (grey out) set to 2 Full Dup = off
Modem Type 1200 baud AFSK everything unchecked

So as you can see because I'm dumb I like nice long and clear and verbose details ....... :-)

I "think" the TNC 3 is OK and the problem seems to be in the mystery world of the lack of a clear setup manual from ArpsDroid (grin)
Or its child-proof and I'm an idiot .....

APRSdroid Preferences

Call sign = OK
SSID = 7 handheld
Digi path = WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1
Connection = TNC (KISS), Bluetooth SPP
APRS Sym = /> (should be the car)
Voice Freq = none set
Comment = why won't this work
Location = SmartBeaconing (enabled on the tablet too)
Position Priv = Ambiguity is off Speed and Bearing = Checked Altitude = Checked
Keep Screen on Checked
Notifications Blinking LED for all
Map MapsForge
Theme XML

I don't think I missed anything - it was a default install here an hour ago ..... but all i get is:
" Please configure a Bluetooth TNC! "

Can anyone help me please ?

Oh yea, BTW - its does run on my new Motorola Cell phone (Moto G Power 5G) model # XT2311-3.

I can get it to send a position report and it shows up on the phones APRS map but of course not on APRS.FU but as soon as I hit "Start Tracking" it crashes and I get this on the screen:

APRSdroid keeps stopping

W00t ! it lives .......

I just reprogrammed the TNC3 with another copy of firmwear-2.0.2.elf for fun and its happy on my cell phone now!

  • re-flashed it
  • went in and set the Audio Input gain again - just to check, saved it
  • when hit "Start Tracking" the app does not crash
  • and the log actually fills up now with lovely purple data
  • hopefully its now alive and happy - so I'm gonna call that progress ....... (grin)

I'm gonna go test it on the live map and also start learning about emails and sending and receiving texts.

Welp, that lasted a whole 3 mins - it "was" happy for a second, well 3 minutes.

  • then I clicked on SMS GATE to send out a test text message and poof - back to crashing and screwing up
every time I hit "Start Tracking " again ..... but this time it does seem to work for a while and if I go to the
log screen and "start tracking" again I do get some logging data coming on and its not crashing instantly.
  • I'll try sending an email and see if that crashes it

Are you familiar with how to capture logcat logs with ADB? That could be helpful here.
