Overview

Cover the official languages used in the top 10 countries from which asylum seekers come to the UK

Contributions to this ticket can be done via POEditor.

Questions/Assumptions

The official languages are sufficient for all asylum seekers

Acceptance Criteria

Basic support

At least one of the following non-English languages is supported for each of the following countries:

  • Iran: Persian (fa_IR)
  • Albana: Albanian (sq_AL)
  • Iraq: Arabic (ar_IQ), Kurdish (ckb_IQ)
  • Eritrea: Tigrinya (ti_ER), English (en_ER), Arabic (ar_ER)
  • Sudan: Arabic (ar_SD), English (en_SD)
  • Afghanistan: Pashto (ps_AF), Dari (fa_AF)
  • Pakistan: English (en_PK), Urdu (ur_PK), Sindhi (sd_PK), Punjabi (pa_Arab_PK)
  • Syria: Arabic (ar_SY)
  • Vietnam: Vietnamese (vi_VN) (n.b. North and South Vietnamese are very different)
  • India: Hindi (hi_IN), English (en_IN)

Extra support

All the following languages are supported:

  • Albanian
  • Arabic
  • Dari
  • Hindi
  • Kurdish
  • Pashto
  • Persian
  • Punjabi
  • Sindhi
  • Tigrinya
  • Urdu
  • Vietnamese
