  • InterPro ID / label
    Trehalose-phosphatase (IPR003337)

  • Example sequences with problematic annotation (ID + gene/protein name):
    Fly CG5177 (FBgn0031908/Q9VM18)

  • Description of issue
This entry is associated with the GO term 'catalytic activity' (following a previous review IPR003337 -> GO:0003825 #116). That high-level term isn't so helpful in itself, and it seems the signature in fly CG5177 and other plant proteins isn't associated with catalytic activity. From PMID 27469628:
"It has been shown that the TPP (T6P phosphatase) domains of Tps1 in some plant species have lost their catalytic activity. [29]"
"We found that recombinant Tps1-TPP and CG5171, but not CG5177, dephosphorylated T6P under our experimental conditions"
"the function of the TPP domain proteins CG5171 and CG5177 remains unknown"

Can we remove the GO term?

Hi Steven,
Many thanks for this. Yes, I removed the term from this entry and added a sentence mentioning this, with the reference you provided. It will be visible in InterPro 96.0.
Best regards,
Sara
