If the requested resource is a directory which does not contain an index.html or similar file (configurable), status 404 is returned. This is an issue for the directories containing the OSM replication diffs.
Generating index.html and saving them in these directories might be feasible at osm-internal.download.geofabrik.de but it is not feasible for planet.openstreetmap.org.
Either we find a way to use mod_autoindex and mod_sendfile together or we have to use our own directory index generator.
Putting Alias /directory/subdirectory/ /var/www/directory/subdirectory/ before the WSGIScriptAlias directives works but AliasMatch doesn't. It is not feasible to add an Alias for every directory.
