Not a huge fan. Incentivising people to make prs, issues or merge without review seems like it'll massively encourage spam across the platform a-la hacktoberfest. In comparison, the Mars/Arctic-Vault badges weren't forecast in advance so there was significantly less chance of people trying to game the system to have a shinier profile. That, and having code on mars is significantly cooler than having merged a PR without review. Seems like a spam-encouraging feature to me, and placing them in the badges section clutters up the profile and diminishes the coolness of the existing badges imo. |

I kinda like the gamification idea. It'll resonate with a lot of coders considering that most of them are gamers irl.... However, comma, I think it's gonna cause an avalanche of spammy, "nonsense" activity geared at unlocking some quick achievements, which will be a nightmare for project maintainers |

What are all the list of achievements and to earn them? |

As a maintainer of various open source project repositories I'm concerned that this gamification will alter the incentives of serious code submissions, meaning more potential work for me to filter out garbage from people trying to achievement farm. Honestly this sort of "development" of the github platform (rather than fixing the myriad of open issues that actually affect usability of the platform) is yet another drop in the bucket pushing me to look for alternative services to host my source code. That bucket is getting pretty close to full... |

First thing I did after seeing this feature was to check the profiles of people that inspire me. E.g Brittany Chiang x Anthony Fu. New feature doesn't reflect their achievements thus it doesn't inspire me. If the feature can dig deeper into actual noteworthy achievements, then it would make sense. Like sponsored projects, open source contributions. Stuff like that. My 2 cents. |

Useless bloat. It would be great if you could remove them for good. |

I have a generally positive view of this. I doubt the simpler-to-achieve badges will make the tougher-to-achieve ones seem less cool because you earn the difficult ones with more work. But there will be trial-and-error for sure. Also, I doubt it will encourage that much more spam -- spammers who are out there for achievements only are already making PRs to get the green squares. |

I really liked it when I saw it. Do you have a list or image of all achievements? :) |

Having suggested something similar a few years back, I really like this addition. Did notice though that the achievements don't get embedded on Twitter as suggested in the announcement post. Could be an issue on Twitters end though. |

I'm wondering what the requirements for the pull request achievement are. I've contributed 30 pull requests over the last few years that ended up being merged, but I have only earnt this achievement twice? |
Beta Was this translation helpful? Give feedback.
-
I'll like it as long as it doesn't initiate spammy pull requests. |

Awesome achievements! 🤩🖤🌟🖖🏻I would like to invite whoever reads this to know my profile and this project - which is very cool and simple -.Check it out! If you like, please give your star, dude:https://github.com/Guedesou/CRUD-Social-Media-Basic |

Doubleyou tee eff. Please stop this nonsense, or at least give me the option to remove this crap from my profile... Getting a PR merged is my job, not an achievement. |

Nice job guys 🎉It'll be wonderful if users can track the progress of their achievements |

That's not a bad idea though, even discord launched its achievements for a few days and it was kind of fun, support the idea |

I dislike the idea. We already have all the incentive we need to do good programming work. Creating bug reports, pull requests, forks, etc. are all done with a goal in mind. We don't need an added incentive. And by creating a new incentive, you create a false reason to do these things which risks creating useless busy-work. It may boost 'engagement', it isn't helpful or productive. In addition to that, don't want the visual noise and rubbish notifications associated with these 'achievements'. |

latest update, you can now pick what you want to hide, unlike in the past, it was all or nothing go to Achievements Tab, click the or this URL, it's same thing https://github.com/[username]?tab=achievements you should be seeing like this then, click any badge, hover left then you should be seeing like this then boom ... you now have the option to hide those badges that you want to hide |

such a gleaming ray of positivity. I could imagine this behavior stems
from underlying issues and if anything feel compassion for those who once
crossed paths with this kind of degradation and felt less then human. What
is the goal or what is the expected outcome treating people in this manner
?
It says a lot about somebody who purposefully joins a conversation in which
they have nothing meaningful to add, only to intentionally deliver hurtful
banter with horrible punctuation and sentence structure.
What is the purpose of asking questions these questions that :
1) are nonsensical
2) are incomplete
3) accomplish nothing but to actually be that "whiny" individual you were
crying about
Are you expecting a Braveheart scenario in which you chant this
negativity from your high horse to rile the people and wage some kind of
war against the sins of those who dare to display their achievement badges?
Bringing wrath upon those who have such sinful badges because perhaps, you
yourself are upset due to the fact you were unable to acquire a badge of
your own and are now on a crusade of hate to make everyone miserable.
Next ....We set fire to diplomas, certifications then those dreadful birth
certificates that are rarely used and we must hold our entire lives!
Here are the answers to the questions you asked:
1) *Who cares ahout badges?*
Assuming you meant to spell "about" and caring, as in " it's ok to
receive acknowledgement for achieving proficiency when developing skills. "
then I must say I have no problem with that. I assume you can read the
English language. Therefore, you could do your own research and scroll
through this discussion and see others that are ok with receiving badges as
well.
2) * Is somebody trying to "collect them all"? *
I would think that might be the goal for some, yes.
3) *What are they, Pokémons?*
No, they are not cards nor a game where you seek out virtual characters, in
a real world environment.
4) *You didn't get a badge?*
Yes, I did.
FYI
If your handle matches your Github account, you chose to display your
badges on your account.
5) *What's the big deal?*
I think *you* would be the person to answer such a question.
You may be too busy thinking about teenagers urinating in some sick contest
I have never heard of and find utterly disgusting.
Don't be the problem, be the solution, if you wish to ban giving accolades
to those who accomplish their goals.
What ingenious ideas have you brought fwd to combat this?
Im sure your ideas are welcome to find another way to say, " Good job! "
or maybe humans shouldn't appreciate anyone for anything.
As I am sure you refuse any bonus compensation from your employer and never
received a trophy in your life.
Don't be so angry about something that does not have any impact on your
quality of life.
Do something nice for others without expecting something in return, see if
you can make somebody smile who
may have something hurting them inside, assure others that they are not
alone and do have people who care about them,
or just smile at someone when out in public and see how contagious it is.
Let people know they are appreciated and help push them
forward, towards success.
Not everything will be beautiful to you, as we all are different. It won't
hurt you in any way to stay silent and not ruin it for those who do.
I promise.

the big deal? Why is this becoming a pissing contest of whiny teenagers who
care too much about completely unimportant things?

Announcing achievements can be overwhelming if there are too many of them. It's important to strike a balance and consider the impact on the recipient and others involved. While celebrating accomplishments is valuable, excessive announcements may dilute the significance of individual achievements or create a sense of competition. To address this concern, it's recommended to:
By taking these considerations into account, you can create a balanced approach to announcing achievements, ensuring that recognition is meaningful, inclusive, and doesn't overwhelm recipients or create a sense of pressure. |
