Inter Variable - missing glyphs in Italic #8064

Describe the bug

A clear and concise description of what the bug is.

To Reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open Inter in Google fonts
  2. Write in åå or ää

Expected behavior

Should look like the regular font, but in italic. Now it displays another glyph.

Additional context

  • OS: macOS 14.6.1
  • App that renders the font: Chrome, Visual Studio Code
  • Version of font "Inter-Italic-VariableFont_opsz,wght", "Inter-VariableFont_opsz,wght", probably 4.0? Downloaded on 20th of August 2024.

Hi @liroliro, we recently updated Inter, so we're now serving the latest version, which includes Italics. The shapes shown in the image are the actual italic shapes of the letter a.

We received a lot of requests to update this family #7661, #3429
