Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
The executor doesn't need to use the same interface as the client. Better performance may be achieved by mapping the user interface to a different executor client.

In particular, we should explore the possibility of using O_DIRECT flags, io_uring, or other modifications to user I/O in order to improve performance of I/O.
