More of an enhancement:

In order to differentiate devices, it would be nice to have the run description or experimental variables as a field in the GUI.

Yeah, makes sense.

I think it might not be good if the number of columns in the spreadsheet becomes a variable depending on which file we load in (since there can be any number of experimental variable name-value pairs for each substrate).

How about this:

  1. I add two new columns to the gui: "Variable Name" and "Variable Value." Those would be filled with whatever the first variable name-value pair we used when running the measurement program, the rest (if any) of the variables would not show up in the gui.

  2. The run description appears when you hover the mouse over the file name cell

Sounds good, I think option 1) would make it a little bit more readable.

The hovering is not showing up on our end, it must have to do with the qt5ct backend mess with Manjaro. I'll try to see if there's a way to fix it by changing the backend for all Qt apps.
