See https://opensource.com/article/18/3/cla-vs-dco-whats-difference. I recommend DCO as it requires only signing off commits as acceptance and most projects are transitioning to it. Waiting on legal for decision.

Once the approach is determined, it should be automated via Github checks. DCO can be automated by Probot.
