The command files have a lot of boilerplate, for UI error messaging among other things. This could probably be cleaned up and simplified with some common helpers. The directory should probably be called cmd per recent idiom and we should move packages to an internal unless they are surfacing the compilation names.

This issue is just a placeholder, we should discuss this quite a bit before taking it on.
