This issue was originally opened by @chrislovecnm as hashicorp/terraform#6198. It was migrated here as a result of the provider split. The original body of the issue is below.

Please improve the documentation with the syntax for resource paths.

cluster_name/Resources/resource_pool_name

In your case it would be:
resource_pool = "MacPro/Resources/Image_Lab"

Also it may be a good idea to mention govc in the VMware go API, great tool for debugging and figuring out stuff like paths.

I believe this should be mostly covered with all the changes since this issue was opened. If there are any further documentation problems or improvements, please open a new issue.
