Are there any plans to make this API semantically correct and use POST/PUT/DELETE for state changing requests?

Sounds logical, but then again it should be renamed to state.cgi and use PUT to set/update values and GET requests to see the values.

sounds reasonable, but would introduce quite a large breaking change and would mean XML-API would require a large overhaul, which is IMHO not on the current agenda. But I will keep that ticket here open for the time being.
