Thank you for looking into this! My main use case would be to use a color that isn't "too intense" as the background color for column headers (and aggregating bottom rows). Personally, I am mostly interested in a HTML solution, but maybe the transparent LaTeX package would work? Or maybe this workaround (mixing the color with white)?
I think I'd say, choose the colour you want, if you don't actually need
transparency. (Try the "shades" package for easy colour mixing.) From a
quick look, supporting transparency in LaTeX looks very brutal and the code
complexity might not be worth it... and then we haven't talked about rtf,
docx etc... I will leave this open as an enhancement and see if it gets any
upvotes.
