Sorry, I'm not a fan of command line and I found jExifToolGUI as a frontend of ExifToll. Unfortunately or may be I'm using it on wrong way, I know there is the View Data tab to see all tags and value but when we go on Edit Data tab, I was expecting to see all tags and value, possibility to do updating and a visual approch to indicate any update, but It's not the case. It's look like the frondend assume the same approch as ExifTool to update only present value for a specific tag. It would be much user friendly if the tags and value are prepopulate in the Edit Data tab and then update what ever you want and be able witch fields were updated.

I believe we discussed this issue some time ago, but I don't remember the conclusions we reached.

Thank's for the feedback. I really don't understand why it's not possible... it would be much more easier. I'm looking for an alternative.

Everything is possible, you just have to do it and know how to do it.
consider that all the code is maintained by @hvdwolf , when he either works, doesn't sleep or doesn't eat ;-)

Even so, it is a good feature request to consider.

I am currently on a "programming break".
We discussed this indeed earlier, and we (or at least I) could not find a good solution for it.
The challenge is: "From which image should I automatically copy the data?
If you load 30-250 images, should I wait till you select one image? And clean it immediately when you select a 2nd or 3rd image?
And what if no image is selected? In very early builds I always used to display the first image loaded, even if no image was selected. That also lead to multiple user comments to remove that as it wasn't sure to them (without an image selected) where the data could come from, so I removed it, although in my reasoning it was always the first image if no image was selected.
That is exactly why the "Copy from" button is there, even though this is a manual action. To make it fully clear to the user that ONLY from the SINGLE image he/she selected, the data is copied for further use.
And by now I think in hindsight that that was a good decision.

Please note that I am not against it. As mentioned: it was in the very early builds.
But we need a very good approach as not to get the same reaction to undo this again from those other users".

It's ok for the programming break, no problem.

Regardless there is 30-250 items, only when there is a selection of a photo or video, there is a pre-process like View Data to grap all the tags and then populated fields under Edit Data tab including user-defined combinaisons if defined. For the UI, it would be user friendly if edited field could have a visual distinction, like highlighted or a change colour. Of course, this way suppose the user is doing that process one by one item. In the case there is no selection, there is no value at all, because there is no selection. At this point, because I'm not too much aware about ExifTool Commands tab, I don't think there will be an impact, but not sure.

I saw the Copy Data tab and was expecting to get what I wrote above, but It didn't work or may be I did it in a wrong sequence.

Best regards
Philippe
