This is apparently an illegal combination until 2.4, which PyPI-compatible registries now seem to be rejecting. The impact being that pushing the existing argon2-cffi to an internal PyPI registry fails, e.g. as a dependency of another package.
This was fixed in Hatchling 1.26.2 as you can see here, and I can see recent builds of argon2-cffi are indeed producing the right metadata or I would have raised a PR.
Given that it's already fixed, I wondered whether there was any plans to release the fixed version of argon2-cffi to PyPI at some point soon?
Much appreciated.
