The bug

I share my camera album with my wife but she notifified me that she did not see new pictures appearing so I checked my Immich app and noticed that it suddenly decided to create a new album called "Camera" and started uploading my Camera-pictures in there instead of the original album.

Below the duplicate album the app has created for no reason:
screencap_duplicate_album

The albums that are synced from my phone does not include this mistery album:
Screencap_sync_settings

Sync settings:
Screencap_phone_albums

How can I get these images back within the old album and stop the app from creating a new album for a album that already exist?

The OS that Immich Server is running on

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

Version of Immich Server

v1.113.0

Do you know if you often press the sync button in the backup setting?

Thanks Alex :)

No, I only did it once (when 1.113 dropped allowing the album sync, didn't use immich before that because we were waiting for album sync functionality) with the initial backup and after that I enabled the background sync to upload pictures when the are 10m of age.

Ps:
I run the server connection over a private "always online VPN" and I'm currently abroad where the internet connection is not that great (quite slow and dropouts are frequent).
I had to restart the app 2/3 times in the past week because it got stuck for hours looking for assets or didn't process new uploads at all (my wife starts complaining in the evening that pictures that where made that entire day are not availeble yet within my shared immich album, which is becomming a bit of pain now that the app creates new albums that I constantly have to share with her so she can access the vacation pictures ^^).
I also had another case where it didnt do anything until I actually manually opened the application from the app tray before it immediately started searching for assets and begun uploading (maybe the background service crashed?).

It just created yet another (4th) Camera album when it started syncing just a couple of minutes a go, below the server and app logs:

Below the applogs after sync was completed, 4th album now also containing pictures:

When I take one of the rogue camera albums and select all the images and add them to the original camera album I get the error that the pictures are already part of that album, which they are not..

Info message:
"Assets were already part of the album".

Its getting even more weird now, counters/immich links to albums are now all over the place (compared to previous screencaps above):

I eventually fixed it by doing the following:

  • disabled the background sync on the mobile app and closed it down
  • checked if any pictures where not member of any album and made sure the list was empty
  • deleted all the rogue camera albums leaving all the pictures album-less.
  • did another search for pictures without albums.
  • selected all the pictures that now showed up and added them to the original camera album.
  • opened the app and press the "sync album button".
  • after that I did a manual backup and it looked all fine, it had nothing to sync.
  • turned the background service back on and set the timer on 10m of age.
  • made a random picture and waited.

After 10m the picture was synced with Immich in the correct Camera album and no new albums where created.
It has been stable for a day or 2 now with multiple syncs that all ended up in the correct album.
Problem seems to have been corrected, but it would be great if an "Album constraint" can be implemented to prevent this from happening again.

Same issue here, and after pressed the “sync album button”, it looks like two albums have same photos.

Try to add photo from “Camera” to “Camera”, and it shows “photo already in album”

图片

Server 1.118.2
App 1.118.1

Update: since in my case two albums have some contents, so I add a new photo and check which album is synced to, then delete the other album, looks good.
