The deb package (and tarball installation) seems to put config files in /etc/opt/influxdb..., however it is common to put this directly under /etc/influxdb/... instead.

A similar issue for telegraf was accepted and tracked here - influxdata/telegraf#264

Some of those fixes/improvements should be ported over to the influxdb packages as well.
