Course concluded, unable to send messages after student types a whole message #2420

Summary:

Steps to reproduce:

Be a student in a course that ended
Compose a message to your favorite teacher from last year from said course.
Click Send.

Expected behavior:

If you aren't allowed to send a message it should alert you earlier before you have time to write a message.

Actual behavior:

Get "Course concluded, unable to send messages" :(

Additional notes:

This seems like #1249 was fixed and replaced by this bug.
