Description

When I try to create a new bottle and install Steam at the same time in CrossOver, the application crashes. However, if I manually create a new bottle first and then install Steam separately, everything works fine.

It seems the crash only happens when creating a new bottle and installing Steam in one operation.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Launch CrossOver with CX Patcher applied.
  2. Click "Install a Windows Application."
  3. Select Steam and let CrossOver create a new bottle and install Steam simultaneously.
  4. CrossOver crashes.

If I:

  1. Create a new bottle manually (e.g., Windows 10).
  2. Then install Steam into the newly created bottle using "Install Software into Bottle."

The process works fine without crashes.

Environment Details

  • macOS version: macOS Sequoia 15.1
  • CrossOver version: 24.0.5
  • CX Patcher version: 0.5.81
  • Game Porting Toolkit version: 2.0 Beta
  • Hardware: Mac Mini M4 Pro

Expected Behavior

CrossOver should be able to create a new bottle and install Steam simultaneously without crashing.

Additional Notes

  • The issue only occurs when using CX Patcher and Game Porting Toolkit. If I use CrossOver without CX Patcher, the process works as expected.
  • Unfortunately, I do not have a debug log, but I can attempt to provide one if necessary.

Update:

I just realized that I missed an important detail in my original post. The crash doesn’t just close CrossOver—it actually causes the entire macOS system to freeze and forces the computer to restart. This makes the issue much more severe than I initially described.

Apologies for not including this earlier. I hope this additional information helps in diagnosing the problem.
