Catalina will not allow the binary to run and instead displays the message:

“displayplacer” cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified.
macOS cannot verify that this app is free from malware.

I believe you have 3 options here:

  1. Install via Homebrew with brew tap jakehilborn/jakehilborn && brew install displayplacer
  2. Download the source code of a release (or clone the repo), cd to the directory, and execute make to compile from source.
  3. Follow the steps here to allow non-verified apps to run: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202491

I have an Apple dev account so I'll look into the developer verification process. If it's simple I'll give it a shot.

Right click on the binary, select 'Open', then open it anyway, then you can execute it from terminal successfully.

Hi Jake,

Sorry but I'm not a technical person so bear with me, I will try to explain this.

At home, I have a MacBook with 2 external monitors (let's call the content on the monitors left and right: 1L and 1R)

But at work using 2 external monitors 1L's screen (the content on them) is on my right monitor (2R) and 1R's screen is on my left monitor (2L). Using the arrangement tool in system preferences does not solve this issue if you can imagine with me - only a physical swapping of the monitors do (which I cannot)

Is there a way to use the ID/index of 1L's content and manually change/link it to 2L, using this terminal application you designed, vice versa for 1R to 2R? :)
