University of Michigan
Solar Car Team

It was the start of my third semester at UofM when I decided to join the
University of Michigan Solar Car Team (henceforth known as Solar Car).
Being remote, I no longer had an activity to pour efforts and long hours over,
such as ballroom, so I figured I should join something that will enable me to
learn a completely new skill.

Now, I am on the Aerodynamics division learning how to CAD and run computational
fluid dynamics (CFD) while meeting my teammates for the next three years.

More updates to come.

Tau Chi Epsilon (TXE)

Currently on its first iteration, TXE is an organization that I founded along with
two of my friends. Established in the summer of 2020, our vision is a community
of self-motivated and remarkable individuals who are deeply interested in technology
and its power to change the world.

Through the many obstacles the organization has faced in 2020, I now
understand the difficulties of building a virtual community.
And more importantly, I now understand the aspects of running an organization: many hours of
behind-the-scenes work and many failed test runs.

I would like to thank our members for their patience and second-chances.
For more information about TXE, feel free to check us out here.

Internship at Tech-X

Despite COVID restrictions, Tech-X was gracious enough to invite me to intern for summer 2020.
I want to express my gratitude for the company for their unwaving support and patience as they took
a chance on me despite having no prior experiences or knowledge of the material.

At Tech-X, I learned the importance of being fast and efficient, of strategic and clever problem solving,
of asking questions. I learned how to figure things out by myself and how to figure things out with a team,
each with its advantages and disadvantages.

Michigan Research and Discovery Scholars (MRADS)

On August 25th of 2019, I moved into my dorm at Michigan, and was immediately greeted with an air of
excitement and warmth. Since the very first day, the MRADS community has been an integral
part of my college life. I have found support, loyal friends, and great
opportunities through the experience.

Being a part of MRADS is about more than just the research component. Living with each other,
we thrived and survived the ups and downs of Welcome Week, football games, late-night excursions,
concerts, movie nights, dormal, and the move back home.

Thank you to MRADS for all the memories I will cherish.

Research Position at Lahann Lab

In the Fall of 2019, I applied to a couple of research projects that I was interested in, mainly
in the biological sciences. Luckily, I was accepted to Professor Lahann's lab as a research assistant.

Through the experience, I learned the value of communication, patience, and good, scientific work.
Constructing nanoparticles takes about three weeks; one misstep ruins the whole batch. I learned
how to be thorough, accurate and precise, and conscientious of every step. And most importantly,
I learned which mistakes are necessary for learning and which mistakes are forever to be avoided.

Michigan Ballroom Dance Team

Ballroom taught me how to dance; dance when it mattered most
and dance when no one is looking.
As an art, ballroom has many rules, and I have not yet learned all of
them. But like all art, it is a medium of expression, and
I have learned to express myself in another way.
Just to name a few lessons I have learned:

How to effectively communicate, sometimes even without words

How to show up day after day, and still have as much energy as the very first

How to cheer for other teammates

How to entrust in your partner, and the power of letting go

How to take criticism and reflect on your own shortcomings

How to smile and keep smiling
