At this time we have no plans to change the release structure from it's current state (installers containing all supported plugin formats, for Windows/Mac/Linux). This is mainly due to the increased support burden we've experienced when trying to provide alternative ways of packaging the plugins in the past.

If folks don't want to install all of the plugin formats, it's very easy to select only the plugin formats that you want from within the installers on Windows and Mac. I haven't tried to do something similar on Linux, but I imagine it should be possible. For any further customization, I would recommend doing your own local build.
