version.texi no such file

I am attempting to compile this on OpenBSD 6.3.

I downloaded the zip file, unzipped it, cd ratpoison-jcs
Then I did ./autogen.sh followed by ./configure
When I then run make, I get the following error:

./ratpoison.texi:4: @include 'version.texi': No such file or directory
./ratpoison.texi:60: warning: undefined flag VERSION.
