Start playing a movie with a supported subtitle stream (e.g. external SRT subtitles).
Switch to a different but unsupported subtitle stream (e.g. internal PGS subtitles) that will require transcoding to be displayed.
Transcoding will begin, but the first stream will not get disabled and will be displayed together with the new stream.
Switching back to the first stream will not stop transcoding, and the two subtitles will still be displayed together.
Even if you switch to a different supported subtitle (e.g. external SRT subtitles in a different language), transcoding will still not stop and the burnt-in subtitles will still be displayed.
In essence, when switching to an SRT subtitle from a PGS subtitle that has already initiated transcoding, the transcoding never stops and the SRT subtitle is overlayed to the PGS. While when switching from an SRT to a PGS subtitle and transcoding is initiated, the SRT subtitle is never cleared and is again overlayed to the PGS.
(Substitute "SRT" with any supported format and "PGS" with any unsupported format.)
I hope I'm clear enough; it's very easy to observe and understand it, but for some reason I'm finding it hard to describe in simple words.
