I have been running Ubuntu Mate 20.4 as provided by BPI successfully for some time now but since this is now an old OS I wanted to upgrade and chose version 24.4 from this site. I used the Install Instructions using "wget" and "dd" commands to prepare an SD card and this booted up successfully to a command line.
On the johang.se page there is also a download section containing .bin.gz files. What are these for?
Also, the most important question for me is the need to configure the 40 GPIO alternate functions as necessary. In 20.4 this is done by editing the /boot/boot.ini file and invoke the correct .dtbo file found in the /boot/overlays/ directory by altering the "setenv overlays..." line.
In the 24.4 installation there is neither the .boot.ini file nor the /boot/overlays directory. How can this be performed in this installation?
