Task dependencies / Linked tasks #2173
Comments
Thank you very much for opening up this issue! I am currently a bit overwhelmed by the many requests that arrive each week, so please forgive me, if I fail to respond personally. I am still very likely to at least skim read your request and I'll probably try to fix all (real) bugs if possible and I will likely review every single PR being made (please, give me a heads up if you intent to do so) and I will try to work on popular requests (please upvote via thumbs up on the original issue) whenever possible, but trying to respond to every single issue over the last years has been kind of draining and I need to adjust my approach for this project to remain fun for me and to make any progress with actually coding new stuff. Thanks for your understanding! |

Problem Statement
There is no way to represent a connection between separate tasks (not the same as subtasks) from the same or different projects. One task can depend on another task, represent a different kind of relationship, like
is caused by
,causes
,relates to
etc.❔ Possible Solution
A right click
Add relationship
option on selected task. It will bring a popup where you can input 1 or more tasks and the kind of relationships between them. In the additional info view, there can be a newLinked tasks
section displaying the related tasks. One more nice to have thing after this is implemented is referencing other notes by an ID in the
Description
, similar to how you can reference issues in github like this #15. Again, another option can be added to the context menu likeCopy task ID
and maybe be also displayed in the additional info section. This will open the possibility in the future for a
Graph View
like the one by obsidian https://help.obsidian.md/Plugins/Graph+view or foam https://github.com/foambubble/foam to be developed.➕ Additional context
