In MQTT ebusd/global/signal the boiler to adapter signal?

I updated the firmware on my adapter and have broken my system. If I monitor MQTT I get messages, including the topic ebusd/global/signal
Is that signal the signal between the boiler and adapter or between adapter and daemon?
My interpretation is that the boiler is communicating with the adapter, which is communicating with the daemon, but I'm failing to interpret it.
I've noticed the daemon I am using in Home Assistant to connect to the adapter is quite old (the Lucas Grebe one), so I was thinking of using one of the more recently updated Fork: does that seem a reasonable plan of action? I am thinking there is a mismatch between the firmware on the adapter and the home assistant add on Daemon. Currently it says I am running "version" "ebusd 23.2.p20230716" and there is an update available.
