ComponentVectors are not stack-able #254
Comments
Oh interesting. I'll try to take a look at it soon. Unfortunately it probably won't be this week as I'm a little swamped with work stuff. In the meantime, I think the old |
Thanks for your answer @jonniedie! julia> ax1 = Base._iterator_axes(x)

julia> Aax = Base._iterator_axes([x, y])
(Base.OneTo(2),)
julia> B = similar(x, ax1..., Aax...) # should be 2x2
2×1 ComponentMatrix{Int64} with axes Axis(a = 1:2,) × FlatAxis()
138725991131840
138725991140464 In other words, the created matrix has the wrong number of columns. Note that if instead we do julia> B = similar(x, Aax..., Aax...)
2×2 Matrix{Int64}:
1 138723500513936
2 138723500514000 then the construction is correct. |
The MWE @gdalle posted here works now on this PR: #249, but the behavior is such that it ignores the names of the components in the second array ( julia> x = ComponentVector(a=[1, 2])
ComponentVector{Int64}(a = [1, 2])
julia> y = ComponentVector(b=[3, 4])
ComponentVector{Int64}(b = [3, 4])

To me this is much better than erroring, and arguably you wanna stack ComponentVectors with the same structure anyway. Thank you! Hope your PR gets merged, if there's anything I can do to help either you or @jonniedie let me know |
FWIW, julia> axes(x) == axes(z)
true but if you have reasons to have it that way, then Alternatively you could decide that, in mismatched cases, it's better not to give an unpredictable fancy axis... follow this instead: julia> hcat(x,x)
2×2 ComponentMatrix{Int64} with axes Axis(a = 1:2,) × FlatAxis()
1 1
2 2
julia> hcat(x,z)
2×2 Matrix{Int64}:
1 5
2 6 For testing things, note also that stack((x,y,x); dims=1) # tuple of arrays
stack(ComponentArray(a=(1,2,3), b=(4,5,6))) # array of tuples
stack(ComponentArray(z=[x,x]) for _ in 1:4) # generator of arrays
stack(x -> ComponentArray(a=x, b=[x,x]), [5 6; 7 8]; dims=2) # map then stack |
I'm actually not sure what the result of those are supposed to be 😬. But I tried each of them. Here's what I get: First one: julia> x = ComponentVector(a=[1, 2])

These look fine -- or at least they look like they contain the right Matrix, ignoring special axis types. In the 4th, x is a local variable (sorry), hence I think it ought to match this: julia> stack(x -> [x,x,x], [5 6; 7 8]; dims=2)

I should have actually tried to index the component arrays with components. Here are the four examples, but this time I try indexing them with symbols. Sadly the third one doesn't work. :-( julia> Xstack1 = stack((x, y, x); dims=1)
