This should make maintaining Power on the station more interesting.
Machines like the cloner, anomaly generator, salvage magnet and thrusters should increase their power usage when cloning, generating anomalies or pulling debrie. They should consume a low idle usage when doing nothing.
This is instead of constantly pulling a high load no matter what the machines are doing.
This won't work if the powernet just dies when increasing load like that. But if it doesn't it means engineers actually have a reason to increase power output and running a big machines will cause lights to flicker.
It's also another value that could be used for balancing.
