Where are agents stored?

I like the new agents feature that you added. Gives us control over main agents like /code, /solve, and /plan. But when I installed an update, all of my main agents edits and duplicates are gone. Where is it defined at? I made some subagents in the config.toml, but they don't seem to work like the main agents do. I'd like to know where they are defined at so I can back them up.

It seems like this is configured in .code/config.toml now instead of .codex/config.toml... Though I have to say I almost want to submit a bug Issue due to the agent instantiation not really working consistently with the latest updates. I just don't have the full debug output yet to really help here and the results have been super mixed.

Yes, it is configured there at ~/.code/config.toml but not the agents. I just created an agent through the TUI and it didn't populate the config. I could manually add sub-agents to the config, but they don't act like the main agents do. With the main agent, I can start off using a completely different agent than Code (Qwen, Gemini, Claude, etc). This is so valuable because it makes it where the TUI is Agent independent. With the subagents they always start off using Code.
Edit: Actually the subagents that are manually defined in my config don't work at all anymore since I took that update.

Hey there - sorry we had to change where the config files are stored - see #193

If you had both a ~/.code/config.toml and a ~/.codex/config.toml then you might have lost agent settings written to ~/.codex/config.toml. Does copying ~/.codex/config.toml to ~/.code/config.toml resolve the problem?

Nope. Because created agents never populated the config in the first place. That's why I asked where are they stored. When you create a new sub agent, where does it go? It doesn't to to the config.toml.

The latest build saves them to ~/.code/config.toml. Older builds might have saved them to ~/.codex/config.toml

Format looks like;

If you're not seeing them saved, could you let me know what sandbox and approval (read/write/full auto) setting you have?
