bcrypt library requires you to install an additional compiler. Ensure you have installed Python ^2, a C++ compiler, and a make system in your machine before installing bcrypt.

If you don't want to install all these dependencies, check this library bcryptjs. Performance is not up to the mark but it does the job of hashing.

npm install --save bcryptjs

This worked for me in 2024.

yeah, thanks for this. I had the exact same issue, in my project. Was really frustrating as I had the project running in my previous device, but when i switched devices i kept getting this error. turns out it was because I had not installed the clang compiler in my new device.

Simply ran (this might be different depending on your package manager):

    $ sudo dnf install clang

after installing the compiler the package installed with no issues.
