The best solution I've come up with is an overlay that shows what everything does (Affinity Designer on iPad help mode, for example).

What I don't want to do is apportion any part of the graph drawing area for this. So, this mode will be a method on the graph that can be called via the library. Then people can chose where it fits in to their UI.
