I would like to see an option which hides window buttons when window is maximized. Would be nice to use it when you use options like hiding the window decorations in maximized state for instance. Could be useful for users which use a Unity 7 like desktop layout in different desktop environment.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't this something the window manager (marco, compiz, kwin, etc) would be responsible for?

Ubuntu MATE for a long time had a setting which would do exactly this for marco - hide the window buttons when maximized.

I think they cannot because GTK provides no way to hide the window buttons of a single window.
Its meant for windows with client side decoration. As an alternative to use server side decorations.

I think Nautilus with Unite on GNOME (PopOS 22.04) did manage to hide the window buttons when maximized? Might be useful for #32 as well.
