it would be much much easier to switch modes (text/select/boxes) by making the menu auto collapsable and auto expandable.
having to click is very annoying: the menu is too big, so my workflow is: pick a mode (box), hide the menu, show the menu, pick another mode (text), hide the menu again, etc
