Is MongoDB version significant?

In Linux Lila Onboarding there are such commentaries:

mongodb (5.1 >= mongo >= 4.2, [instructions](https://docs.mongodb.com/manual/administration/install-on-linux/), [WSL2](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/62495999/installing-mongodb-in-wsl))
    For WSL2, you might want to manually create the default /data/db directory and give ownership permissions to your user (sudo chown -R `id -un` /data/db). If sudo service mongod start does not work, you may want to open a terminal and run mongod as super-user.

Is it crucial to install 5.1 or 4.2 version? Nowadays 7.0 is free to use and there is no downgrade as i understand.

The version is significant. Almost certainly, versions outside the specified range will not work because they are not supported by the database driver.
