https://github.com/paularmstrong/swig is no longer maintained. Although it's probably fine to use as the default for now, it would be better to replace with something that is actively maintained https://mozilla.github.io/nunjucks/

I just replaced swig with nunjucks in my email templates and much of the syntax is the same
