Docking Station works like a Charm, but when disengaged is a living nightmare ... an unending one !!! #2140
Comments
Do you have logs and screenshots, I'm not sure what you are experiencing |
Finally ... You tell me what logs do you want(post me the commands that will generate those logs and i'll post them here) I have tried to google but unfortunately there is not much material with Docking stations and linux so I have no clue what commands will help probe this issue. @Zeno-sole ... Look forward to the commands that will reveal information that's causing this issue ! Its literally impossible for me to detach my laptop from the docking station and carry it away to work. The worse part is when there is a power outage in the locality my docking station loses power and as a result my laptop will just freeze, until the power returns. Another observation is ... If i connect a VGA connector to the laptop when not docked to the docking station, the laptop is usable, the most surprising thing is that even if the LCD moniter whose VGA connector is plugged into my laptop's VGA port is switched off the laptop is usable ... |
You can first look at the kernel log |
@Zeno-sole ... with some self initiative i could pull the above logs. I ran the tail command for the above log files and ran a Dock Disconnection -> Frozen Laptop -> Reconnection -> Laptop back to life operation with the outputs pasted above. Hope you will be able to identify the problem in between these logs. @Zeno-sole ... I've tried to isolate the docking station engage and disengage button ... the following log is only with regard to these two operations only. # sudo tail -f /var/log/Xorg.0.log
$ sudo tail -f /var/log/kern.log
$ sudo tail -f /var/log/user.log
$ sudo tail -f /var/log/messages
|
There is no obvious error when viewing the log. Do you also have this phenomenon when using other distributions? |
I use only Deepin ... |
@Zeno-sole ... Update : ....... If i disable Windows effect, I am able to use my laptop after disengaging the dock ... but I have to continue to use it with the Windows Effect disabled. If i try to re-enable the 'Windows Effect' then my laptop hangs and returns to its unusable state. I hope this finding will help you identify the issue i am facing and you can offer me the solution to it ! |
@justforlxz It seems to be a kwin problem, do you have a good suggestion? |
Use libinput debug-events to debug and view related logs |
@justforlxz ... Hope this helps in fixing / patching the issue ... |
We will update the kwin version as much as possible. |
This issue seems stale since labeled with Since we are on deepin v20.6 now, not sure if this issue still exists on the most recent release of deepin. If it does, please feel free to create a new issue and we'll look into it. Thanks! |
@BLumia ... its stale only bcos Deepin team hasn't acted upon the fix/patch as per the KDE Bug report thread here Please confirm how near or how far the fix is as per the comment posted by Nate Graham here As per Nate Graham the issue is already fixed in Plasma Version 5.24 ... its Team Deepin who has made this thread stale with their inaction !!! |
I'm not from the deepin-kwin team so I'm not sure about the plan about kwin, but deepin v20 will probably not update the base package version. v23 will be released with newer release of almost every package so I can tell v23 will definiately use newer kwin version. This issue itself marked as btw, please consider create a new issue instead of reply to this issue for it and maybe consider link to this issue in the discription if needed. |
@BLumia @justforlxz ... I think I've located the bug and the fix for it ... but the question is, is the deepin team willing to fix it ... The symptoms of my issue and the one reported as bug here ... are the same. @Zamundaaa of the Kwin team seems to have fixed it via this commit ... Now if the Deepin team is kind enough to replicate the above fix into their Deepin-Kwin repo ... I could finally breath easy after being rid of this annoying and crippling bug. |
Hi, thanks for the link! Could you re-check if the issue itself still happens under the most recent release of deepin? If it does, please create a new issue and I'll pass it to the related team. btw the kwin version will get updated in v23 so I'm not 100% sure if it will going to be fixed if the issue still happens in v20, but I still recommended to create a new issue (if the issue still exists) so we can keep tracking the issue. |
@BLumia ...
Yes it continues to happen across updates ...
Believe me i would really appreciate if the deepin team ended my agony of more and a year ... Sep 2021 ... I am literally dangling a PCB pulled out of a CRT monitor with the VGA cable from it connected to my laptop just so the laptop is usable in my office ... and at home with the docking station I would really love to have my laptop de-possessed from this misery ... I can't wait for v23 and then languish further ... @BLumia ... please have this attended to on priority for its more than a year old. |
Hi,
Anybody here who can help me sort out my docking station issues ?
System :
Linux 5.12.14-amd64-desktop #2 SMP Tue Jul 6 08:58:44 CST 2021 x86_64 GNU/Linux
My latpop, a 2570p when docked to its docking station ... works like a charm(with a VGA connected monitor, a vertical mouse and laptop charger plugged into the docking station) ... i was excited ... but the excitement was shortlived ... the moment i disengage the docking station the nightmare begine and its never ending,
Trust me I am not exaggerating ... even a hard shutdown and re-login has no effect ... on reboot the login screen shows up, but after i login, i just can't do anything ... the screen looks like its split randomly in 4 tiles with no action happening whatsover ... all i can do is move the mouse cursor ...
i've tried to restart kwin but i can never get it to return to normal when not connected to the dock.
BUT the moment i dock it to my docking station the laptop springs back to life like nothing happened.
Urgent help needed in fixing this issue, so when i disengage my laptop when i have to move out, I should be able to use my laptop normally with no issues.
I just can't understand how a hard shutdown too is unable to load the defaults !!!
Is there some config file that's getting written when the laptop is docked to its docking station ?
If so, I don't mind manually deleting it before i disengage ...
Or if there is any command that lets me safely disconnect the OS from the Docking station before i disengage, I would really like to know the command.
Guys please help, as basically my laptop has been rendered unusable if its not on the docking station !!!
