Symlinks for stickies directory

I'd like to sync my stickies between desktops. I have nextcloud to sync directories, so I created "stickies" in /home//Nextcloud/stickies and symlinked to it from /home/mgering/.local/share/notes@maestroschan.fr

This works well on one desktop (ubuntu 22.04), but not the other one.
On the other desktop, I did the same thing, linking the .local directory to the nextcloud directory. The extension has the indicator, but nothing happens when I click it -- I'd normally expect to see my existing stickies or make a new one. Neither happens.

Should symlinking work for the .local directory? Is there a log to show what is going wrong?
