Been using direnv and nix-direnv for a while now day to day.
My previous comment is now moot. There's no config for direnv. It just works.
Maybe I was thinking of including direnv in a repackage terminal emulator like alacritty. i.e. a custom package that launches alacritty with all my environment, commands, prompt, etc...
Closing this issue, as direnv is working and "packaged" as part of my NixOS flake, here:
