nix-direnv looks like the best option for speeding up development workflow, by auto-loading the nix shell defined within a project's flake when you cd into the project directory.

Got direnv working with nix-direnv. Ready to package it. However my packaging workflow stings. See #7

2024 Marcus here.

  • Been using direnv and nix-direnv for a while now day to day.
  • My previous comment is now moot. There's no config for direnv. It just works.
  • Maybe I was thinking of including direnv in a repackage terminal emulator like alacritty. i.e. a custom package that launches alacritty with all my environment, commands, prompt, etc...
  • Closing this issue, as direnv is working and "packaged" as part of my NixOS flake, here:

pkgs.direnv
