Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. View post in Home feed, written in French. Post is tagged with EN
  2. Search for any means to translate French into English. No translation option exists in the post itself
  3. Even my local instance (v4.4.0-alpha.1+glitch) does not offer translation via DeepL.com which my local instance uses
    ...

Expected behaviour

Always translate the post by some means, into EN in my case

Actual behaviour

No translation option of any sort is available

For completeness, here is a post tagged as DE, where my local instance uses DeepL.com and does translate the post into EN

Please no. Maybe offer a link to a translation service but never automatically translate posts. This might be useful if you only speak one language (english) but a lot of people speak more than one and are completely fine with this. If I want to read english posts, I follow english users.

From my initial post:

"Always translate the post by some means, into EN in my case"

"by some means"

I didn't intend this to mean or to imply 'automatically translate [the body of] every post' at all

All I meant was that the option to translate the body text should always be available if the body text was in any language other than the default language of the poster and/or the reader

A link to the translation service my instance uses locally (again, DeepL.com) wasn't offered, I'm assuming because there was no mismatch between the EN posting language and my default profile language (EN) even though the body of the post was in French

And (speaking only for myself) I have no interest whatsoever in only Following English users so I never see anything but English posts

There's a lot of interesting viewpoints being posted these days in languages other than English

All I want is to be able to read them in English
