Description

In some circumstances, requests to /_matrix/client/r0/account/password are slow (taking > 25 seconds).

As noted in element-hq/element-web#11531 (comment), it may be due to some sort of fanout effect to federated servers. It's unclear if this is specific to certain accounts or servers.

Steps to reproduce

See element-hq/element-web#11531 (comment) for repro steps and logs.

Element web should show a spinner, but ideally, the homeserver would respond more rapidly.
