/sync returns state events from before join in timeline instead of state #12590

Moved from element-hq/element-web#10477

Description

After joining a room with history_visibility set to join, there's 5 state events visible in the timeline

Steps to reproduce

  • Join room with hidden history (history_visibily = join)
  • Inspect sync response

surely these guy should be in the state block but not the timeline block of the /sync response

  • ara4n

Events are returned in timeline and not state
