I am able to download .zip files for both JIRA and Confluence, but when I attempt to unzip them, it just goes into a .cpgz->.zip infinite loop as described here: http://osxdaily.com/2013/02/13/open-zip-cpgz-file/
Further, when I attempt to upload that .zip file to restore my data to a new JIRA cloud instance, I receive this error: http://imgur.com/7jdwg0Z
It appears that this backup strategy may be broken.

@cwatzmann Curious, what happens when you use the unzip cli (from a shell session) to unzip? (Rather than finder doubleclick.)
Also what happens when you try and manually backup and restore using the jira admin web ui? (This tool is a wrapper around the admin interface. If the UI backup/restore isn't working for your instance you need to take it up with Atlasssian support)
