Should i have premium on plex also to download and audio book?

No. You don't need Plex premium to download.
I would also recommend trying. Plexamp, due to the fact that it's actually being worked on and developed unlike this app which was abandoned several years ago

that plexamp is more music oriented and has troubles remembering where you left off in a book? Is that still the case?

That readme was last updated 2yrs ago.
I tested Plexamp last month and had no issues with it remembering the position of my book.
