[bug] screenpipe backend terminates systematically #699

describe the bug
screenpipe.exe backend on windows turns off every time after 15 seconds. also the case when clicking on "save and restart" in the ui.

to reproduce

  1. be on windows 11
  2. start screenpipe or click "save and restart" in the ui

expected behavior
the backend should not terminate

system info

  • os: windows 11
  • screenpipe version: i don't see it in the ui but it's the last update (paid version)

also i've just tried to quickly check another monitor id / mic id during the 15 seconds window. in consequence the backend doesn't crash, so the issue might be due to an id not being found

Accès refusé happens when you have task manager open (it should not affect screenpipe at all)

seems like issue with your device PL2570HS (2- HD Audio Driver for Display Audio) (output) but it won't crash screenpipe, just not recording it

the main issue is this Failed to get monitor with id: 170328141, which monitor did you select?

seems like you try to record a monitor that is unplugged

try to change the monitor in the app settings (or CLI)

worst case scenario you can delete this file:

C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\screenpipe\store.bin and restart srceenpipe, it will reset your settings

@louis030195 thanks for your answer. I deleted the store.bin file and i don't have the Failed to get monitor error anymore.

I tried multiple combinations of monitors/displays and it seems the crash comes from Réseau de microphones (Technologie Intel® Smart Sound pour microphones numériques) (input) (default). It's the only input device I have.

Example when it doesn't work:

  • All 3 monitors are enabled (strangely only one Starting FFmpeg process for file but 3 screenpipe_server::server: streaming frames)
  • 2 audio devices activated (with the bad one)

  • Removed store.bin before my tests

  • Removed manually Accès refusé errors because I had the task manager opened
