Red underscore when adding cursor

Some colorschemes work (red underscore is added) when a new cursor is added. However, other color schemes do not.

Using: <Plug>(VM-Add-Cursor-At-Pos)

Other dark color schemes (tried a handful) and nothing is shown when a cursor is added. However, the cursor is there and works as expected. If you add a cursor on a letter, it turns it red, but if you add it on a space, there is no visual indication.

Is there a workaround i can do to get this functionality working in all colorschemes? to reproduce, try using onedark, tokyonight, catpuccin, etc.
