I had this problem with Dash to Dock on Ubuntu 20.04.02 LTS, which occurs on Arch Linux running GNOME 40 under X11 too.
There's a (big!) delay while opening an application and closing it.
When opening a new window, it will take a few seconds (like 10 or 30) to show on the dock.
Meanwhile, when closing it, the dot disappear and the recently closed applications "acts" like a favourite application on the dock.

With Ubuntu 20.04.02 LTS this problem could get "fixed" by using the application icon, but it doesn't do the job anymore on GNOME 40.

Even with 0 extension, this problem still occurs.

This isn't related to #1303, as I am already using the latest git version of the extension.

Fixed by using gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock [AUR] instead of classing Dash to Dock (remember to add the Show Apps icon to the dash, otherwise it will not work)
It's back again. I'm going to keep this closed as it's a duplicate.

Also, duplicate of #1173
