VsCode Feature request : Add a "reload data" button #114
Comments
Thanks for posting, great idea! |
I hope @danmarshall doesn't mind that I went over similar open issues in SandDance and redirected some devs to try my Data Preview 🈸 vscode extension that has a bit more feature rich set for loading/saving and reloading data and data view configs :) See this dev.to post for more info: https://dev.to/tarasnovak/vscode-data-preview-for-devs-around-the-39mn I'd love to collaborate with SandDance dev team on this since we seem to try and solve same problem of providing better data views for devs. Feel free to peruse my custom Data Manager API and data providers I created for Data Preview if you'd like to add support for those text and binary data files to Sand Dance too. |
Hi Taras @RandomFractals , glad to meet you, and yes it would be great to collaborate! Also, I have seen your Vega Viewer extension for VsCode which incidentally could also benefit in having a "reload data" button as requested. So perhaps that could be a starting point for a collab? |
Hi Dan! happy to hear you are open to collabo on our 'bettter' data/dataViz tools for devs. Let's connect on Twitter || elsewhere in Vega or vscode devs slack. I am not hard to find. P.S.: my Vega V. does refresh on vega spec save. Good point on making it refresh for data changes for local data files too. will do! ;) |
hah! this escalated quickly in a positive way, more on Vega fronts than data in vscode, but we game 🎮 for either collabo ... Just linking your user base to our thread on that: RandomFractals/vscode-vega-viewer#3 🚀🚀🚀 |
While visualizing in SandDance, I might also refresh my CSV with new rows and/or columns.
Currently, I need to close SandDance and reopen it, to be able to work on the fresh data.
Since SandDance doesn't save its state, I have to remake all the visualizations.
It would be good to be able to refresh the dataset without closing SandDance.
NB: I use it in VSCode.
