I do not have docker desktop on this system.

Repro Steps

I converted my OVA file to TAR file using various tools. OVA -> VMDK -> TAR via comand line. I attempted to convert and use the VHDX file type but got install failures. Installed using --install.

Expected Behavior

I expect the system to start up.

Actual Behavior

The system returns errors mounting c:, errors trying to translate my Paths, and error getpwuid(0) failed 2. I've reinstalled the system etc, I've cleared all my paths exsept for minimal ones no results. I've changed the default wsl instance no luck. something to note is that the file structure is not fully assembled inside of the kali folder.

Im missing the etc folder so I'm unable to make changes to the wsl start up instance to what I know

Unfortunately this isn't a supported scenario. If the /etc folder is missing from the tar, the error you're seeing are expected. This issue is most likely coming from the conversion process, so this is something that would need to be fixed up before trying to import the distribution in WSL.
